BEER is GOOD!
About Bruce Ticknor
Another Protest against Canada's Antiquated Liquour Laws.
Terry David Mulligan (who is something of a wine connoisseur and Canadian celebrity) is taking a case of wine between provinces to protest Canada's inter-provincial liquor laws.
You can read more about it from CTV News, Vancouver Sun or Calgary Herald
I wish him well since a change in these laws which all depend on an antiquated (1928) Federal law can only help me get decent beer from other Canadian provinces. My selection of beer is at the whim of the LCBO here in Ontario. I usually get a better selection of imported beer than I do of Canadian beer, or even of Ontario craft beer.
I'd love to be able to log onto an Ontario craft brewers web site and order a dozen bottles of their seasonal. I can't because it isn't legal. Why the hell not???
I'd like it even better if I could order some of British Columbia's Craft beer, Or Quebec, or Alberta, or any other Province.
I thought the government wanted to help small businesses. Apparently not.
I support Mr. Mulligan's attempt but I suspect that the provinces will simply ignore him and do nothing. Charging him would give him grounds to fight, ignoring him might open up some underground shipments but not likely. No winery or brewery is likely to risk the consequences of openly ignoring the law.
Maybe somebody should make a "Citizens Arrest". At least that might cause a stir.

Re-Protest
I gave up years ago dealing with The Beer Store and LCBO. The Beer Store is owned and run by foreigners and the LCBO really doesn't care about beer consumers, just wine. I make my own beer, been doing it for years. I brew many different styles, tax free. There is something wrong with our beer distribution when I have more access to a Polish Lager than great beers from Quebec and BC. Good luck on your quest Terry.
