Aventinus Weizen Doppelbock

Coffee like darkness with a thick, clumpy off white head.
Cloves, citrus, coffee and dark chocolate make up the aromas. That is enough to make the mouth water right there.
Very creamy, rich, full mouth feel.
Citrus and spice are the flavors up front with berries and fruit in the middle with a nice sparkling citrus finish.
It's a beautiful, well balanced brew.

Aventinus Weizen Doppelbock

A thick and long lasting slightly off-white head on a very dark (black coffee) coloured and quite cloudy beer.
The aroma is a classic spicy wheat beer smell with lots of spice, cloves, vanilla and banana.
The feel is nicely full and rich.
Tastes are again classic wheat beer. Starts out with vanilla and banana, some cloves follow quickly. There are some nice dark berry or raisin tastes underneath and a touch of roasted coffee which is almost buried.
The finish has a light sour taste, sweet lemon or lime, like a candy sour taste.
Very bright and sparkling which is nice in such a heavy beer. No alcohol taste comes through so watch the 8.2%, it can sneak up on you.
This is a very complex blend of tastes and is a real standout amongst beer.
It is very similar to their Eisbock, Kind of like a little brother. The tastes are all there, just a bit more subtle.
I kind of like wheat beer in general, and such a full flavoured version is a treat. Got another bottle cooling and settling now and I think I will pick up a bunch more. I am going to try to save a couple of these and see how they age.

Beer Quote of the day

A good local pub has much in common with a church, except that a pub is warmer, and there's more conversation.

— William Blake

Not to mention the ales and beers involved.
