Aventinus Weizen Eisbock

Very dark brown with a thick clumpy tan colored head.
Aroma is spices and a hint of citrus with a slight mold hint.
Very creamy. The alcohol flavor is the most outstanding taste with this brew. Once I got past that it has a chocolate and coffee flavor with a hint of spices of some sort, (I can't define the individual spices), and a bit of raspberry as well as a pleasant earthy flavor. This is very good.
I've slagged German brews before this but if they have more like this I'll have to eat my words. Actually I'd rather drink them. (-:

Aventinus Weizen Eisbock

Wow, Heaven on Earth.
This one is absolutely great.

A huge tan coloured head on a cloudy black coffee coloured beer. The aroma is of cloves and vanilla and is strong enough to make your mouth water. Just the appearance and aroma would be enough to get me interested but the rest of the beer experience just kept on getting better.
The feel is very rich, round, full and creamy.
Tastes are wonderfully full, consisting of cloves, bananas, vanilla and dark berries mixed with hints of bitter chocolate and coffee.
This is a winter beer and would go really well with a sturdy stew or roast. I am thinking about having a couple with a Belgian Carbonade for dinner this week.
I really can't say enough about this one. It just blew me away. I am going straight back to my LCBO to buy some more.
The yeast in the bottom of the bottle make me wonder what this beer would be like if cellared for a year or so. I'd try it but I don't think they would survive long enough.

I've been looking for this but I never see it at the LCBO. I'd love to try it but how do I get it?

Weizen Eisbock is a fairly small run beer. It is only available in Ontario in the late fall and early winter, and even then it depends on the whims of the LCBO. It's a shame we are stuck with these antique laws here in Canada's most populous province. Thank our government for that. As far as I am concerned, it would be great to turn our "Brewers Retail" into recycling depots and start selling beer from specialty stores where good beer might have a fighting chance against Molson and Labatt who own the "Brewers Retail".

Get it at the Beer Garden on the Esplanade in Toronto

I tried it there ...amazing

Beer Quote of the day

In my opinion, most of the great men of the past were only there for the beer - the wealth, prestige and grandeur that went with the power.

— A. J. P. Taylor

(Drink enough beer and you think you have wealth, prestige and grandeur. Mostly the grandeur, or delusions there of!)
