Canada's Mainstream Brewers just don't get it!

I just stumbled onto this story from the CBC "Beer wars blamed on shortage of young drinkers".

It seems that mainstream beer sales in New Brunswick have fallen this summer, it also seems that craft brewers can't keep up with demand.

Some of the statements from the one mainstream brewer quoted (Joel Levesque from Moosehead) are typical of the mainstream corporate marketing mentality.

He stated "the demographic that drinks the most beer, New Brunswickers aged 19 to 25, is shrinking and despite sunny weather, summer sales are down."

What he was really saying is 'the demographic that drinks the most CRAP beer'.

He also stated "You entice people to take your brand by offering something that they can't get from their brand regularly, for example a T-shirt in the box or in this case, it's $5 coupons", never even considered trying to make GOOD BEER!!

In the meantime, the craft brewers of the province can't keep up with demand.

"We're out of beer. It's been a crisis year for us because we can't keep up with demand at all"

"It's been a terrific summer. It could've been more terrificker if I had more beer to sell."

Sean Dunbar, brewmaster for Picaroons.

Of course, the Government, in it's usual Nanny State mentality decides to limit coupons. For once this might be a good thing for the Craft Brew industry, at least in New Brunswick.

I hope Canada grows up soon.

Beer Quote of the day

But if at church they give some ale And a pleasant fire for our souls to regale. We'd sing and we'd pray all the live long day. Nor ever once from the church to stray.

— Old New England proverb

(Sing along folks: Give me that old time religion!)
