Corne du Diable (Horn of the Devil)

My third from Dieu du Ciel, They are hard to find here in Ontario.

Pours an almost garnet red colour, quite cloudy and shows almost pink against a light. The head is disappointingly thin and short lived, a light tan colour.
Aroma is citrus and apple, there is a hint of caramel and maybe some pine.
Feel is quite thick, rich and creamy, almost chewy.
Tastes are really hoppy. Lots of grapefruit citrus and apple. Quite a pronounced bitterness and a bit of brown sugar taste, like eating a grapefruit with brown sugar sprinkled on it. A noticeable carbonation tingle on the tongue and hints of pine, earth and woodsy flavours.
A lot going on in the taste of this beer, I really like it. The hops are really "in your face" and they carry it off well, a bit of caramel becomes apparent as the beer warms a bit. There is a solid enough malt base to support the bitterness and a hint of brown sugar lingers in the mouth along with the grapefruit hop tastes.
I wish I had been able to get this in the heat of the summer. It would have been wonderful while slaving over a hot BBQ.

Dieu du Ciel - Corne du Diable (Horn of the Devil)

Cloudy dark copper colour, medium white head.
It smells like grapefruit and being out in the woods after a rain.
Lot's of grapefruit in the taste, some brown sugar or something and some kind of earthy, woodsey taste.
I like the bright grapefruit taste, it really is refreshing and bright tasting. Kind of wakes up your mouth and creates an appetite.
I like this one a lot.

Corne du Diable (Horn of the Devil)

Dark red with a thick tan head and lots of lace.
Coffee and dark chocolate are predominant aromas. Just a hint of citrus as it warms.
Tastes just like it's aroma except the dark chocolate is stronger than the coffee. The citrus lingers in the back ground and becomes a very nice finish.
Although this has lots of flavor the chocolate and coffee are just too strong for my tastes. It could use something to lighten it up a bit.

Beer Quote of the day

I'm Catholic and I can't commit suicide, but I plan to drink myself to death.

— Jack Kerouac

Take it easy Jack. There is no guarantee that there is beer in the afterlife.
