Péché Mortel (Mortal Sin)

I have been waiting a long time to try this one so lets get at it.
The pour is thick and rich, the colour is a very dark, almost black with red tints. No light passes through. The head is very thick, full and a dark tan colour with an even darker ring around the outside of the glass, it eventually reduces to a ring and a lot of lace with a few clumps toward the center of the glass. It looks beautiful.

Aroma even while pouring is noticeable, while pouring there was some citrus notes and a hint of alcohol. In the glass the citrus and alcohol are beaten by the roasted coffee and toasted grain aroma. Some molasses and some dark berry aromas are in there but below the coffee.
Feel is extremely rich and creamy, almost chewy.
Tastes are roasted coffee and grain with raisins, dates, and other dried dark fruit flavours. The coffee is on top and up front but there is a very pleasant dryness and the finish has some bright citrus to set you up for the next sip. The berry and citrus flavours linger as does the dryness and a touch of earthiness.
This is what I think an Imperial Stout should be and on a crisp fall day there is none better.

I have only managed to get 2 beers from Dieu Du Ciel so far but they have both been excellent. I am just going to have to make a pilgrimage to Quebec to get hold of more of the Québécois craft brews.

Péché Mortel (Mortal Sin)

Pours very, very dark, almost black although I think it's just a very deep brown. Hard to tell. Dark days of fall and all. The head is a deep tan and the lace is almost brown.
The aroma is dark chocolate and molasses as well as alcohol. Go figure?
Mouth feel is quite thick and rich. It definitely leaves a coating in the mouth.
The aromas don't lie with this one. Dark chocolate and molasses are the first to hit and then the alcohol but in the finish is that nice hint of citrus that always begs for more. Very nice indeed.
I would like to get more of this breweries libations.

Dieu du Ciel - Péché Mortel

Pours thick and rich, very dark, black with red tints. A fairly thin tan head.
It smells like burnt coffee and berries.
Tastes are much better than the smells. Coffee and chocolate with dark berries like raisins and plums.
It is very full feeling in the mouth, very rich.
Some light lemony tastes and a bit of alcohol flavour.
Almost a meal on it's own, at least as filling as a bowl of soup.

Beer Quote of the day

One of the hallmarks of the baby boomer generation is that it doesn't live like the previous generation. It hasn't yet given up jeans and T-shirts or beer.

— Ron Klugman

(If you're talking about Coors, then I'm afraid you have given up beer!)
