Great Lakes Brewery Winter Ale

Deep red color with an off white thick clumpy head and a lasting lace.
The aroma is raisins and some brown sugar and just a hint of citrus.
Full, rich creamy mouth feel. This is a treat.
Spices and citrus. My oh my is this good. Beautiful flavors of citrus, brown sugar and spices as well as the other tastes in this keeps asking for more. I am almost beer shocked this is so good.

We are strong supporters of Ontario Craft Brewers. Ask for them at your local LCBO in Ontario or better yet, visit one or all of their breweries. You will be glad you did.

Great Lakes Brewery Winter Ale

A very thick, coarse, tan coloured head on a clear, dark copper coloured beer.
The aroma is fairly faint, I could find some honey and spices (ginger and coriander). It was faint but enticing.
The feel is thick, round, rich and creamy while the tastes are quite spicy at the first hit. Lot's of coriander, cloves and ginger come through. There are lots of subtle tastes below the spice as well. I found some honey, quite a bit of biscuit and maybe a touch of orange marmalade.
The finish is nicely dry with a light sparkle on the tongue.

All the spice tastes along with the warm honey and biscuit flavours make this a great beer for a cold winter night. I am saving one for Christmas eve.

Great Lakes Brewery Winter Ale

Big, clumpy tan colored head on a dark copper colored beer.
The aroma is a malty sweetness with just a hint of citrus.
The taste of this beer is a hit of citrus at the start followed by a honey sweetness with an over all creamy mouth feel. It finishes smoothly with a nice sparkly, orange and spice taste.
Very nice indeed.

Great Lakes Brewery Winter Ale - 2010

I'm curious to see how this stacks up to their 2009 version.

Pours with a large and rocky light tan coloured head on a clear dark copper coloured beer.
Aroma of light citrus, some pine notes and faint hints of spices.
Feel is very full and creamy, quite nice.
Taste is definitely different from what I remember of earlier versions. The spices are much more subdued and there is a lemon citrus and pine taste coming through which is very pleasant. A good solid bread and toast base with light flavours of cloves and a distinct black pepper note coming through. I like it. The pepper is a nice touch.

Beer Quote of the day

When I get a chance to play golf or go on a boat with good people, take the boat out and put some lobsters on the grill, get the ice-cold beer and the cigars - that's heaven here on earth.
