Great Lakes Brewing - Canuck Pale Ale
Pours a clear Golden colour with a large, lasting, white head.
Aroma is quite malty and sweet.
Feel is nice and creamy.
Taste is not at all what I was expecting from the name. It is far maltier than I expected and the hop kick is almost all in the finish. There is a sourdough bread type grainy flavour which is most of the taste profile, quite nice and very pronounced, the hop tastes are toward the grapefruit bitterness profile and are definitely there, but they don't seem to jump out at you until you get passed the malt.
The more I sip at this one the more I like it, the blend just seems to work, but it did take a bit of getting used to and the sour malt taste tends to linger quite a bit.
A funny thing about this brew is that if it sits in the glass for a while the order of the tastes seems to reverse. After a while the hop bitterness hit before the malt sour/sweet. And the aroma switched to the grapefruit hop classic pale ale aroma.
I like this one and I can't help wondering what it tastes like from the keg, I suspect that is it's main strength.

Great Lakes Brewing - Canuck Pale Ale
Pours a deep gold with a thick head and lots of rich lace.
Sweet aroma, almost like maple syrup.
Mouthfeel is very rich and creamy. That alone puts it up there for me.
Sweet, sweet malty start, but the hop kick comes at you like a ton of bricks in the finish. If you think I forgot the middle, I didn't. It's like a sweet and sour mix of berries right from the bush. Blueberries from the branches of a bush on a northern rock come to mind. Three are sweet and number four has to put some acidiity in the mix.
This is great. One 500 ml. bottle doesn't make it. Must make a note to buy at least 3 when buying Great Lakes brews.
We are strong supporters of Ontario Craft Brewers. Ask for them at your local LCBO in Ontario or better yet, visit one or all of their breweries. You will be glad you did.
