Harvieston Old Engine Oil, Strong Beer

A black beer with virtually no head, I can't tell if it is cloudy or clear because I cant see through it.
The aroma is of chocolate, coffee, earth and a hint of sourness. If I put my imagination to work I can smell old crankcase oil. I like the name, no pretensions there.

Feel is very rich and creamy, quite thick.
Taste starts with coffee and chocolate. There is a light and bright bitter hoppiness which comes through later. The middle has some nice sweet malty tastes and an earthiness which is quite pleasant and which becomes the foundation for this beer. There is a taste of dates or raisins in the sweet middle and these tend to linger and become a part of the aftertaste, just below the slightly grassy hop taste.
The overall finish is fairly dry and leaves me wanting more.

I like this beer. I am going to be watching for more of it.

Pleasant smoky aroma. Have never come across a smell like that in an ale. Flowery with a bit of citrus flavor. Nice clean bitter after taste. Another great blend of hops and malt, (or bitter and sweet). All in all another great beer, not quite as good a blend as the Fullers ESB.

This is what Fuller's has to say about this beer:
"London Pride is a smooth and astonishingly complex beer, which has a distinctive malty base complemented by a rich balance of well developed hop flavours from the target, challenger and northdown varieties in the brew. At 4.1% a.b.v in cask (4.7% a.b.v in bottles)London Pride is an ideal session-strength premium ale."

Beer Quote of the day

Beer is the Danish national drink, and the Danish national weakness is another beer.

(I've had their Faxe beer. Their national pass time should be laying down!)
