Het Anker - Gouden Carolus Ambrio

Gigantic thick head that becomes a big clumpy mess as it settles. Very interesting. The lace is very thick and clinging.
Very faint aroma of spice, possibly mace and alcohol in the back ground with the usual hop citrus smell.
Rich, creamy mouth feel.
Banana is right up front with some peach or apricot and just a hint of citrus. I must have a citrus gene. I taste it in almost every beer I've ever had.
As it warms the fruit flavor changes to pear and a whole bunch of earthiness.
That is pretty much how it finishes except the alcohol comes to the fore.
I love this one.

Het Anker - Gouden Carolus Ambrio

Huge off-white head that just wouldn't stop on a very cloudy amber coloured beer.
The aroma was of ginger-ale. That's all I could get from it.
Feel is quite full and rich, almost chewy.
Taste is different, some banana from the yeast and a distinct meatiness on top of some fruity notes, pear maybe and a touch of berry, and an earthy bitterness with just a hint of citrus.
The finish is medium dry and pleasant which is good since it lasts a while. There is a hint of sugar or honey in there and the ginger from the aroma is alway deep in the background.
I like this one, I wasn't sure after my first sip but by the third or fourth I was convinced.

Beer Quote of the day

The big compliment came from the beer drinkers who didn't know me. They wouldn't drink or move when I sang. If they had their glasses in mid-air, the glasses wouldn't come down.

— Ethel Waters

(We're a polite bunch, we beer drinkers.)
