BEER is GOOD!

Holsten Festbock
Holsten Festbock
A coarse and short-lived head on a very dark red/brown coloured brew.
The aroma is quite malty with lots of roasted grain smells, some coffee and licorice with just a hint of citrus.
Feel is chewy and thick, quite creamy.
Tastes start with chocolate and coffee, the anise or licorice tastes are a nice touch, they are fairly faint and well in the background but noticeable. There is a light sparkling citrus like bitterness which lingers well into the finish. An alcohol taste is barely discernible when I think about it.
I think that it is the feel of this beer which makes it most successful. Thick and rich, perfect for cold weather drinking while the light and bright tastes in the finish don't bog it down like some heavier beers tend to do,
I like this one in the winter, for much the same reasons that I like a good Imperial Stout.

Hitachino Nest White Ale A pale yellow color with a clumpy but short lived head. Spices and banana are all I can detect in the aroma. Full rich creamy mouth feel. This is nice. Lots of spice and banana with some hints of pepper. Easy drinking but also very flavorfull. I wish I had more but alas that is not to be with Japan still in shambles.
