Maibock (Helles Bock)
Maibock (Helles Bock)
Maibock means a spring (May) beer. As such this is a traditonal spring beer and to celebrate it comes in with a higher alcohol content, usually at 6% to 8% ABV.
It is a fairly new advent to the bock style since it is pale and requires the pale roasted malts which are a newcomer to the malt world, depending on the coke fired malting kilns which appeared in the late 1700's.
The colours of this style are quite a light amber and should always be clear, The tastes are usually grassy, light toast, often some spice or fruit, occasionally a hint of licorice may be found along with the aroma and taste of alcohol.
This is a spring beer and fills in the time between the traditional dark heavy and strong winter bocks and the much lighter summer wheat beers.
