BEER is GOOD!

Molson - Rickard's Dark
Pours a very dark, almost black, clear red/brown. The head was quite full and light tan coloured, it lasts very well.
I'm already impressed, for a Molson product this looks like it should.
Aroma is a letdown, there is none. At least nothing I could detect or identify. Maybe a touch of a hard water smell but I can't even be sure of that.
Feel is not bad at all, should be a bit fuller and creamier but at least it is not at all watery.
Taste surpised me a bit. There was some.
The roasted and lightly burned malt tastes that a porter should have are really there!! Maybe not quite as pronounced as they should be but at least they are there. I found some mild roasted coffee and chocolate tastes along with hints of sugar and raisins. There is a light sour taste which traditional English porters should also have and even a light hop bitterness in the finish.
All in all I am quite pleased to drink this one and I can't remember when Molson last produced a beer which actually resembeled the style it was supposed to be.
Maybe the big brewers CAN still learn a trick or two, and maybe introducing these reduced profile but close to style beers will teach consummers that beer should actually have taste.
