Mount Begbie Brewing - Nasty Habit

Pours a slightly cloudy dark copper colour with a full and lasting off-white head.
Aroma of grapefruit citrus and hard water.
Feel is full and creamy with a good sparkle.
Taste is grapefruit rind citrus on clean hard water. A honey and brown sugar base, very subdued. The hops take precedence in this one but I really like the noticeable hard water presence. The iron and calcium flavours always make me think of growing up in rural Ontario with our hard well water. It's a taste that stays with me.
I think this beer could use a bit more balance with the malt profile, it's a bit weak for me and doesn't seem to give the hops anything to work against.
Nevertheless, I would drink it anytime.
Edit: I had to come back and add a touch to this since I had been tasting only the top of the bottle. When I poured the bottom of the bottle and tasted I noticed a lot more malt flavour, honey, brown sugar and some straw. It made for a much better blend than I found at the start. I have never noticed this kind of separation in beer before, I don't think it is very common. If you know more about this "stratification" I'd like to hear about it.
Mind you, I wouldn't recommend shaking up the bottle before opening it, just sample it all before making up your mind.

Beer Quote of the day

We don't have to go that far to sell our beer because our immediate accounts sell so much. Places that sold 10 cases before, now they're selling 30.
