Malty, aromatic beers. Belgian ales rank high on my list.
Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale
Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale
Reddish copper color with a thin off white head and lots of lace.
Aroma is very subtle. Some citrus and some spices I can't wrap my nose around. Very pleasant though.
Nice creamy mouth feel.
A cacophony of flavors. A maple sugar like sweetness, a citrus hop kick, spices all throughout. This is grand stuff.
If I had a short list this would certainly be there. I'm sure it will make Gimpy's list.

Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale
A huge, rocky and lasting slightly off-white head on a reddish amber coloured clear beer.
An aroma of fresh picked apples strikes me first, followed by some flower and spicy aromas. Makes my mouth water already.
Feel is quite creamy and full.
Taste is very complex. It starts with apples and spices, maybe cloves and a hint of nutmeg, Quickly followed by bready and fruity flavours, raisin and plum for the most part but a hint of pear follows.
The flavours are very lush and full, nothing timid about them at all.
Finish is lightly dry but leaves a tingle on the tongue.
I could drink these all evening long while I listen to the wind howl.
A great beer.

Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale
Rich copper colour.
A hint of citrus and a blend of spice on the nose.
Creamy on the palate.
Spices add a little warmth when going down the throat. Both sweet and bitter to the taste at the same time. The flavour improved once it had a chance to warm slightly. A good beer to come home to on a cold winter's day. One to enjoy and savour.

Short List?
At the moment your short list looks like anything with the name "Yankee Jim" in front of it.
Maybe it's time you started a real short list?
Hope that's not too difficult ???
