Malty, aromatic beers. Belgian ales rank high on my list.

Session 32 Beers to the East of us.

My thanks to Girl likes beer for this month's Sessions topic: Beers to the East of us.
I live in Canada so I have a great choice. Will it be German beer. Will it be English beer. Will it be Bohemian or even French. No it will be Belgian. I have never been there but to me it seems to be a beer lovers Heaven. I love their Trappist ales and their Abbey ales, or are they one and the same. They have their dubbels, their tripels and none disappoint. They have spiced beers and fruit beers all that I have tried have been very good.
Forget your Stella. They sold out. It's almost just another Euro lager.
To pick a favorite is almost impossible. They all have something going for them in their own way.
This is one of my favorites:

Chimay Premiere

Spice and pepper aroma.
A muddy red color with a heavy head.
This is so good it's almost indescribable.
Hints of spice, earth and citrus. Sweet creaminess with that wonderful citrus and hop finish. A great over all beer.

Since I live in Ontario I was going to pick Quebec for the beers east of me. My partner Nemsis pointed out that La Belle Province is not another country. Well they've had 2 referendums in regards to leaving this grand land of mine and on one occasion they voted to stay in by only 1%.
So I must give the craft breweries of Quebec an honorable mention especially Unibroue. They make some wonderful Belgian Abbey style beers and even though they have been swallowed up by Sleemans their recipes haven't changed. Why fix it if it ain't broken.
Cheers,

Devoid

Beer Quote of the day

You can do anything with beer that you can do with wine. Beer is great for basting or marinating meat and fish.
