Session 37 - The Display shelf , When to drink the Good Stuff.

This months Sessions is being hosted by The Ferm and they have chosen the topic "The Display Shelf: When To Drink the Good Stuff".

I have never been a huge collector when it comes to beer, I much prefer drinking it, but even so I had begun to notice several beers in my small stash which I really enjoyed and wanted to save for exactly the "Right Occasion".
That occasion never seemed to come along and there was always some kind of excuse when something seemed close.
The whole situation might have gotten out of hand but I was Saved!!
Mid December I slipped on some ice and broke my ankle. Both sides. Surgery and all that stuff. Six weeks in a non-walking cast stuck at home and able to do very little.
The Chimay Premier went first, the Westmalle Tripple went shortly after. I stalled for a short while and sampled a few of my other and easier to replace examples, several Unibroue styles and a few that were not memorable at all. Finally I got down to the last, my 2 Aventinus Weizen Eisbock each bottled a year apart.
The stash was empty. By stretching I was able to survive the whole six weeks and the second stop when I was mobile again was to start refilling the stash. It's still pretty pathetic so I better not bust anything for a while but it is starting up again.
My advice is to always keep your stash somewhere you can get to in an emergency. Think I might move mine to under my bed or my favourite chair or someplace like that.

Thanks for the contribution

This was an amusing perspective on cellaring. Not to say that breaking your ankle was amusing, but you know what I mean :)

Actually the whole thing

Actually the whole thing might have been amusing if it weren't so depressing.
Good thing beer is so cheerful.

Beer Quote of the day

I drink to make other people interesting.

(Tried that, most of them are STILL not very interesting.)
