Session #40 - Session beers
This months Session is brought to us by Erik Lars Myers of Top Fermented.
It's the time of year for 'lawn mower' beer. Something that quenches the thirst quickly, is cold and wet and is swilled down so fast that you don't even taste it. That being said, what do you drink once you have rehydrated yourself with this stuff?
It's a lazy summer afternoon and the chores are done. Time for some serious down time with beer.
To me now is the time to mix my brews. In warm weather I like to stick to hoppy beers that really quench the thirst and go down smooth. Start with an I.P.A. perhaps a Rogue Yellow Snow, followed by something from the U.K. like St. Peter's English Ale or go for a German beer like Hacker-Pschorr Munchner Gold.
All these are thirst quenching and easy drinking with tons of flavor, but they could seriously hurt the wallet unless you have deep pockets. I don't, so if I am going to do some serious sessionizing, (Neat word huh?), I prefer to go with something much cheaper. I will however not stoop to the buck a beer swill from the big guys. I prefer something in the $1.50 a bottle/can range. There are lots out there and I keep searching for one with lots of flavor and not too much corn. I haven't been too successful but I sure am having fun trying.
Enjoy your summer everyone. Enjoy your beer and use lots of sunscreen when your playing horse shoes in the sun, or just sitting on the deck.
