Trafalgar Brewing - Critical Mass

Rusty colored slightly cloudy beer with a thick clumpy head.
Aroma is all eastern flavors amd spices. Dates, prunes, mangoe and citrus.
Nicely creamy but not too rich.
Alcohol is on top for sure on this one. I had it in my basement for a month and it's sure gone to my head. There is a hop punch with this and not much else. Some citrus is in the back ground with a slight sweetness from the malt and pepper in the finish. This is very strong stuff.

Trafalgar Brewing - Critical Mass

A very cloudy amber coloured beer with virtually no head at all, On the first pour there was a very thin and clumpy white head but it disappears almost instantly.

The aroma is of dates, raisins or prunes and alcohol.
Feel is very rich and creamy, like a barley wine.
Tastes have a heavy fruit component, dried berries, mostly raisins and prunes.
The alcohol is very noticeable. Not overwhelming but definitely there. There is also a lot of citrus hop bitterness in the beer. A hint of acetone comes through as it begins to warm, it could do without this taste, especially since it becomes more noticeable the more the beer warms.
I think I would really enjoy this beer but the acetone taste ruins it for me, if they could mellow that out it would be a very nice barely wine, the deep dark berry flavours are right on target and the extra hop bitterness could make this one a stand out. Perhaps it would improve with age, I only picked up one so I can't age any to try in a year or so. If I get back to Trafalgar I will pick up a couple and try to age them for a while.

Beer Quote of the day

Under the pressure of the cares and sorrows of our mortal condition, men have at all times, and in all countries, called in some physical aid to their moral consolations - wine, beer, opium, brandy, or tobacco.

— Edmund Burke

(Ah! A smoke and a beer. Pure heaven.)
