A fairly thin off-white head, the beer is very dark, almost black.
The aroma from this beer is wonderful, very smokey and bacon or ham odours with a bit of citrus in the back of the nose. Some honey comes through as it warms.
The taste is very smokey and slightly watery. There are tastes of burnt coffee and bitter chocolate with a bit of a grapefruit citrus tingle along the sides of the tongue. There was just a touch of banana or vanilla but most of the taste is of smoke.
Unfortunately the aroma does not come through into the taste. The beer smelled so enticing that I had very high hopes, perhaps too high. Although all the flavours were there they just didn't seem to blend as well as I had hoped.
Still, all in all this is not a bad fall beer and I will probably pick it up again occasionally.

Pours black with a thin brown head.
Aroma is smoke, yes almost wood smoke like.
A bit of citrus and earth but the predominant flavor is smoke. As it warms the smoke competes with a burnt chocolate and coffee flavor.
It's not bad but Trafalgar has done much better.
We are strong supporters of Ontario Craft Brewers. Ask for them at your local LCBO in Ontario or better yet, visit one or all of their breweries. You will be glad you did.
