Traquair Jacobite Ale

Been looking forward to this one, let's see what we have.
Pours a very dark brown/red with a thick but short lived tan coloured head.
Aroma has hints of alcohol, Port wine, berries and molasses.
Feel is nice and full, creamy and rich.
Tastes are great, lot's of dark berry, raisin/currant, maybe hints of cherry and apple. Lightly roasted grain, touches of caramel and a very light berry citrus finish to clean it all up, it would be too sweet without that citrus finish.
Much like a good barley wine, and at 8% it could almost qualify. The alcohol is noticeable but not overpowering so it could sneak up on you in this beer.
All in all, a great winter warmer.
I've bee reading about "mulled beer" lately and I can't help wondering how this would work as a base? I suspect it would be quite good.

Beer Quote of the day

There were years when I was a beer and tequila guy, then I got real fat. And then I found that you could actually go on a diet and drink scotch.
