The word "Bridal" comes from the Germanic "Brides Ale". Traditionally The Brides family brought out their best beer the evening before the wedding. They claimed that this was to celebrate, personally I suspect that it was to keep the Groom so well lubricated that the whole thing would be over before he really knew what was going on.
First known advertisement
The earliest known advertisement is a clay tablet of a well endowed woman holding a tray of beer. The caption reads something about "Drink ????? beer, It has the heart of a Lion".
The clay tablet actually shows a headless woman, I have not been able to learn whether this is because the tablet is broken or whether it is intentional.
Either way, the more things change the more they stay the same.
